Topic: Ophthalmology Exchange / Rand Paul for Senate

Putting ideology aside, I wanted to pose a question to the community regarding Rand Paul, an Ophthalmologist who is running for the US Senate in Kentucky. He’s made quite a stir securing Sarah Palin’s endorsement. So regardless of what side of the aisle you are on, would Paul’s election to the Senate help the interests of the eye care community? Is it a news story the community is following?

I am interested in hearing any opinions that the eyecare community may care to share on 8-base ophthalmic frames and dispensing.
is your practice currently dispensing any?
who does a good job with an 8-base frame design?
who does a not so good job?
if you do not dispense any, why not?

Topic: Optometry Exchange / O.D. certification. Will it be valuable?

Is O.D. board certification suggested by AOA necessary?
If this certification passes, could it put ODs under more scrutiny?
Usually board certifications occur after graduate school, residency, intense tests, etc. This cert would not even require residency?
What is the point of being certified? Is it to keep ODs up-to-date on changes in their profession? Are the required CE regular and/or TQ tests to keep OD’s licenses current enough to keep them informed about technological, etc. changes?

Topic: Optometry Exchange / A Dedicated O.D.

https://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1613713….
An example of a passionate O.D. who was determined to make a difference.
He served as the N.C. Optometric Society’s president in the 1950s and as chairman of its legislative committee. Lang was instrumental in having optometrists become service providers for the State Commission for Services for the Blind. He also lobbied for financial aid for optometric students. In 2006, he was inducted into the Optometric Hall of Fame.
