Education / Experience:
•Graduation from 4 year accredited school of Optometry (Required)
•Successful passage of all parts of National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) national board exam (Required)
•Current North Carolina State Optometry License in good standing (Required)
•Successful completion of 1 year accredited optometric residency program (Not required but highly recommended)
•Successful passage of Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease (TMOD) special examination (Not required but highly recommended)

Communicating with patients to get detailed case histories
Examining the eyes of patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, disease, abnormality or
vision defects
Checking for signs and symptoms of general health conditions (e,g. diabetes, hypertension, etc)
Using specialized equipment for diagnosis and testing
Prescribing medications and treatments as permitted by state laws
Providing pre and post operative care for patients undergoing cataract and refractive
surgery procedures where indicated
Issuing prescriptions for spectacles or contact-lenses
Fitting and checking prescribed lenses in order to correct vision defects
Providing advice and reassurance about vision-related matters; Offering help and advice for patients choosing frames and lenses
Writing referral communications to doctors and communicating with other medical practitioners and sometimes sharing the care of patients with chronic ophthalmic conditions
