Well-established Ophthalmology practice in Manhattan is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant.

JOB SUMMARY: 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents history.
Demonstrated working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, ocular medications and testing. (work up patients, scribe, refract, and perform diagnostic testing such as OCT, corneal topography, visual fields, fundus photography, and VEP/ERG) 
Utilizes proper eye drop technique, proper sterility technique and takes universal precautions.
Understands and follows procedures for surgical and procedural consents.
Displays consistent professionalism.
Is energetic, empathetic, and consistently friendly with patients and fellow employees.
Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals.
Ability to work as a team member.
Is prompt, honest and reliable
Is able to work one Saturday a month as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Answers patient questions and attains resolution to patient problems whenever possible.
Provides safe and effective patient care.
Performs work-ups for patients. Work-ups include taking medical history; performing refractions; detection and measurement of ocular deviations and muscular abnormalities; assessment of pupilary function and binocular single vision; detection of external ocular abnormalities, and all required fields required for stimulus attestation as determined by management.
Follows protocols when choosing which patient should be taken next from the waiting room.
Assists with patient prescription needs.
Performs diagnostic testing accurately and efficiently.
Explains procedures to patients using understandable and correct terminology.
Documents exam with appropriate sign-off.
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills exhibited by courtesy, cooperative spirit and tact when interacting with patients, visitors and other employees.
Follows up on patient needs and requests promptly and appropriately.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma, some college preferred.
Experience as an ophthalmic technician/assistant, preferred.
Experience with manual refraction preferred.

FULL TIME POSITION
