Outstanding Careers in Optometry: What Every Student Should Know

Recently, Local Eye Site traveled to Ferris State University in Michigan to speak to a group of students at the Michigan College of Optometry. The purpose of the trip was to encourage students to prepare early for a career in Optometry prior to graduation. The specific topics covered included preparing a Resume or Curriculum Vitae, securing professional references, networking, and career development.

Joe Welch, Director of Business Development at Local Eye Site, discussed the importance of telling your own career story through a balance of experiences, education, and personal ambitions. He also emphasized the importance of developing a well-written CV and Cover Letter during the job search process. The students were encouraged to prepare in advance for achieving their career goals by thinking about how to really 'sell' their experiences to potential employers while being as professional and diligent in getting the job as possible.
