Ophthalmic medical personnel work with people on daily basis, performing a variety of tasks for the ophthalmologist as a part of an important professional team of health care providers.
You should possess curiosity, sound judgment, excellent personal skills, cooperative manner, mature attitude and a basic aptitude for accuracy.
In this environment you will work with a variety of high tech instruments and diagnostic equipment.
Techs and ophthalmic assistants supply important information to the physician who is treating the patient.
Duties are :
1) Taking the patients' history,
2) Administering tests and evalutations
3) Taking eye measurements for the purpose of diagnosis
4) Performing a variety of clinical skills such as: Lensometry, Toniometry,
Instruments' maintenance,Basic ocular mobility, Visual fields, Contact
Lenses, Photography, and Oculart pharmacology.

High School Diploma or equivalent certificate is required to enter the training in ophthalmic medical assistant. Cape Fear Eye Associates, P.A. will offer on site training and the possibility to obtain the following certifications:.

JCAHPO: offers certification at three levels
COA: certified ophthalmic assistant
COT: certified ophthalmic technician
COMT: certified ophthalmic medical technologist

Cape Fear Eye Associates, P.A. will pay for any of the above certifications after one year of employment.

Medical knowledge, basic computer skills, and Spanish speaking are a plus.
