The Niswonger College of Optometry at Tusculum University invites applications for a non-tenure track Founding Faculty appointment for all academic ranks. The Tusculum University College of Health Sciences includes schools of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Behavioral Health and Health Care Administration. The Physician Assistant and Optometry Colleges are currently seeking accreditation. The College of Optometry occupies the main portion of a newly constructed building devoted to the professional and STEM curricula.

Faculty members are developing a modern, medical curriculum designed for patient-centered health care in the evolving profession of a 21st century optometric physician. The translation of this medical curriculum into the education of competent, exceptional Optometric Physicians is the primary goal of the successful candidate.  The University Health Center maintains affiliated clinics with Ballad Health, a major health care provider with 21 hospitals, as well as a multi-disciplinary on-campus clinic and the Reeves Eye Surgery Center. Opportunities exist in all aspects of optometry.  Innovative teaching and mentoring methods in education are encouraged and assisted by a state of the art clinical teaching facility. 

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants should have an O.D. and/or Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree in a discipline related to optometry or its associated basic sciences and be eligible for a Tennessee optometric license. The completion of a residency is desired but not required. Equivalent clinical experience will be evaluated.

Responsibilities include: Clinical and didactic education of professional students; research and scholarly activity; university and community service and patient care in the University Health Center and/or regionally affiliated eye clinics and hospitals; development and delivery of the new curriculum, clinical policies and evaluation protocols.
