River Valley Eye Professionals wants YOU to join our team!  We have both full-time and part-time opportunities for bright and talented people to work alongside our providers in delivering high quality eye care.

An Ophthalmic Technician accurately and efficiently performs an extensive number of data collection and administrative functions delegated by the optometrist or ophthalmologist to facilitate both an accurate diagnosis of patient’s condition and an effective treatment.  He or she will also assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced clinical staff.

Experience working in eye care or healthcare is preferred, but we will fully train the right candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform and document subjective and objective ophthalmic testing efficiently to provide basic and extensive information necessary for ophthalmic examinations.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Pre-exam testing such as basic history, documentation of current medications and allergies, visual acuities, pupil evaluation, confrontation visual field testing, eye movement assessment, stereo acuity testing, color vision screening,  tonometry (intraocular pressure  measurement), lensometry, keratometry, automated and manual refractions, and administration of eye drops per provider’s orders.
  • Ancillary testing such as fundus photography, automated visual field testing, optical coherence tomography (OCT) testing, corneal topography, patient triage, facilitate patient referrals to medical specialists, medication refills, and prior authorizations.
  • Informing patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and calibration of equipment
  • Autoclaving ophthalmic hand instruments as needed
  • Ensuring examination rooms are stocked with needed supplies
  • Managing patient flow and communicating with front desk staff and doctors on schedule changes
  • Maintaining computer records
  • Performing telephone triage
  • Giving patients instructions and directions
  • Fulfilling prescription refill requests per provider’s orders
  • Acquiring and maintaining a working knowledge of contact lenses
  • Performing insertion and removal of contact lenses

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic computer skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Personable and empathetic with patient’s needs and concerns
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all team members.

HOURS:

Monday – Friday:  8:00 am - 4:30 pm or 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
One Evening per week:  Noon – 7:00 pm
One or Two Saturdays per Month:  8:00 am - Noon
