Sansum Clinic seeks an Optician for it's Optical Shop in Santa Barbara! This is initially a temporary position to go full time for the right person.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position uses the prescriptions ophthalmologists and optometrists write for their patients, and assists patients with selecting glasses and contacts in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES: (This list may not include all of the responsibilities assigned.)
Assist patients in selecting eyewear.
May manufacture, assemble, adjust and fit eyewear.
Consults with physicians as appropriate.
Order eyewear from laboratory, perform quality inspections, adjusts eyewear, and instructs in the maintenance of eyewear and lenses.
Maintain and conduct equipment inventory and supplies as requested.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Works as a team player supporting a variety of staff.
Displays a caring and responsive attitude and conducts all activities respecting patient, family and employee rights and expectations.
Demonstrates sound cost containment techniques.
Adheres to established safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and practice. Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.
Maintains certification and license requirements and submits required evidence of certification/licensure as needed.
Adheres to all policies and procedures.
Regular attendance is an essential job function
Completes annual performance and competency evaluation process with management and participates in goal setting, performance improvement and educational training as needed.
Participates in department quality improvement, clinic safety, infection control and hazardous materials programs/activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Some secondary college preferred.
- Employee must have a minimum of 2 years experience dispensing optical wear or in an optical laboratory.
- Employee must have considerable knowledge of optometry sufficient to dispense lenses and other eyewear.
