Lab Technician

The Lab Technician is responsible for the efficient fit of eye ware to customers in addition to maintaining all operational functions of the optical lab. The Lab Technician is a key member of the Adair optical team with the success of this family-oriented company being top priority.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains clean and safe environment in the lab
  • Ensures lab equipment is meticulously organized, sanitized and calibrated
  • Ensures lab equipment is at maximum operations efficiency and updated at all times
  • Maintains control of proper tools and equipment needed for efficient functionality of the lab
  • Monitors inventory levels of all lab accessories and equipment in order to provide optimal service to customers
  • Receives and accurately processes instructions from ophthalmologists and optometrists in a timely manner
  • Orders, cuts, polishes, and grinds lenses for prescription glasses
  • Repairs and adjusts ophthalmic eyeglasses for customers, meeting their satisfaction
  • Troubleshoots lab/eyewear-related issues with customers and functions as a resource when needed
  • Follows up on pending job trays daily
  • Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment recordsMaintains and prints Job List as requested
  • Provides reports of daily lab operations as requested
  • Reports any job errors immediately to the Manager
  • Provides training of lab procedures as needed
  • Provides superior customer service and sales support as needed
  • Ensures security, integrity and confidentiality of data
  • Anticipates and troubleshoots possible problems in procedures that may disrupt profitability of the company
  • Advises Manager regarding any aspect of lab operations that could impact profitability
  • Assists wherever necessary while being a team player

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated strength in written, mathematical and communication skills
  • Computer/typing skills minimum 40 words per minute
  • Apprentice-level computer skills with algebraic knowledge/application
  • Knowledge of retail finish and surface lab processing and experience on state-of-the-art lab equipment
  • Continuously updating knowledge of industry through educational resources and reading technical publications
  • Ability to troubleshoot in the lab
  • Superior organizational and multitasking abilities

  • Competent in prioritizing and working with little supervision

Physical Requirements

  • Superior hand-eye coordination including arm-hand steadiness
  • Finger dexterity and control precision
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for four or more hours
  • Must be able to bend, reach and manipulate bulky objects

Educational Qualifications and Experience

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as an optical lab technician
  • Sales experience in optical office
