Certified Head Ophthalmic Technician – Meriden & Bloomfield, CT
ReFocus Eye Health is searching for an experienced, certified Head Ophthalmic Technician to add to our growing and busy practice. Under supervision of the ophthalmologists, the Head Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for assisting the ophthalmologists by gathering data pertaining to the patient's visual status and maintaining an environment conductive to the delivery of efficient, quality patient care. Further the right candidate will provide strong leadership and guidance to the ophthalmic technicians and assistants within the practice.
Effectively perform appropriate clinical testings such as Visual Acuity Testing, Visual Field Testing, Lensometry, Automated Refractometry, Pupil Assessment; Gross External Examination, eye drop instillation. Pachymetry, Keratometry, Manifest Refractometry, OCT, HRT, Corneal Topography, Slit lamp photography, fundus photography, Ocular motility testing and performs additional more advanced skills
Lead, train and mentor technical staff including technicians, assistants and scribes
Organize and prioritize work to ensure completion in a timely manner
Standardize protocols for the department in accordance to the practice ophthalmologists
Identify areas or improvement in current process and procedures that will enhance overall patient care
Have analytical ability to understand and apply complex ophthalmic procedures and follow detailed instructions from the ophthalmologist
Must have excellent interpersonal skills necessary to relate to patients in a sympathetic and tactful manner and allay patient apprehensions
Must be able to skillfully management and leadership abilities
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.
Optimistic attitude, strong customer service focus, and willing to work as a contributing member of a team
High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferably one to two years education beyond high school (graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant, Ophthalmic Medical Technology, Ophthalmic Assistant, or Allied Health Professional program or equivalent preferred)
Certification required. Requires current national certification through the Joint Commission of Allied Health Professionals in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) in at least one of the following:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or
Certified Ophthalmic Technician or
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist
Requires 4 + years of previous experience working as an ophthalmic assistant or technician. Experience would include history taking, ophthalmic patient services, general medical knowledge, and visual acuity testing, visual field testing, lensometry, color vision testing, extraocular muscle testing, and tonometry, as well as, various other more complex skills
At least 1 year of managing/leading a team of ophthalmic technicians/assistants.
