Dispensing opticians are the employees who fit and adjust eyewear for customers, said Angie Brown, department head of indirect patient care for Greenville Tech’s continuing education program.
Tim Johnson, a licensed dispensing optician with Jervey Eye Group on Halton Road, describes his job this way: “Once I get the prescription, I’m almost like a pharmacist for glasses.”
Sharanda Thompson, a licensed optician with Sears Optical, said, “We make sure the product is correct and make sure it fits.”
Johnson said the job includes finding frames that fit the face and lifestyle of the client and troubleshooting any vision problems that occur.
The 90-hour course will include basic terminology, frame selection and eyewear fitting, adjusting, repairing and dispensing procedures, concepts and techniques. It also will include two weeks of clinical practice. link for the rest of the article https://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a…/20080330/BUSINESS/803300324/1004/NEWS01
