To eliminate the main causes of avoidable blindness by the year 2020 by facilitating the planning,development and implementation of sustainable national eye care programmes based on the three core strategies of disease control, human resource development and infrastructure and technology, incorporating the principles of primary health care. This will be achieved by mobilising the will and passion for action through advocacy and by mobilising resources.

Optometry Giving Sight is the only global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error (URE).
Mission Cataract USA
Mission Cataract USA offers free cataract surgery to people of all ages who have no means to pay. Thanks to the dream of one eye surgeon in Fresno, California, one day a year on Mission Cataract Day, hundreds of people throughout the United States are given the gift of sight at no cost to them or to Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance.
OneSight
OneSightSM, A Luxottica Group Foundation, is a family of charitable vision care programs dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education. Through OneSight, Luxottica employees, doctors, partners and other community volunteers give the gift of sight through four program areas:
Global Eye Care – OneSight Clinic teams travel to developing countries to hand-deliver free vision care and eyewear to those in need.
Regional Eye Care – OneSight volunteers provide free vision care and eyewear to those in need in their regions through organized Clinics and Vision Van programs.
Community Eye Care – OneSight helps those in need in their local communities through in-store and outreach programs.
Preventative Eye Care – OneSight funds research to address eye health issues throughout the world and invests in the next generation of optometric professionals through scholarships and education.
The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology
The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO) is a not-for-profit 501©(3) organization in Grosse Pointe Park, MI, devoted to matters pertaining to the eye and vision.
The DIO was founded in 1972 by business people and local ophthalmologists to provide the support and tools necessary to enhance independence for the visually impaired and blind; develop career opportunities in the allied health field that will provide better trained, caring ophthalmic technicians; and help provide answers to baffling problems related to the eye and vision through research.
Vision is Priceless
Vision Is Priceless Council is a nonprofit organization in Northeast Florida which provides free vision screening, eye exams, and glasses for those in financial need. VIP works with area free medical clinics and eye care professionals who volunteer their time and services to help those in need. They are always looking for more volunteer ophthalmologists and optometrists who would like to get involved and join the VIP Cared Vision Network.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind
Raise a puppy for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a non-profit guide dog school. Puppy Raisers open their hearts and homes to 9 week old future guide dogs for their first 14-16 months of life, then return them to Guiding Eyes for the Blind for specialized guide dog training. Raisers teach puppies socialization, house manners and basic obedience. Puppy Raisers are needed in the following states: CT, ME, VT, NH, MA, DE, OH, MD, VA, & NC.

VOSH/International (VI) is a 35-year-old non-governmental organization dedicated to the provision of eye and vision care services for those below poverty level and without access to local eye care.
VOSH International is the parent organization of 34 regional chapters and 25 student chapters in the United States, Canada, Honduras, India, Africa, South America and the Netherlands. The chapters are comprised of optometrists, ophthalmologists, opticians, and other volunteers. On December 6, 2001 VOSH/International signed a declaration with the World Council of Optometry and the World Health Organization to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020. Each year VOSH Chapters average between 80 and 90 missions serving in excess of 100,000 people.
