Description:
The Mercy Ships Ophthalmic Team is still in need of volunteers for the 2010 field service in Lome, Togo in West Africa.
Here is the specific experience and education that we require for each position that can be filled by a Certified Ophthalmic Technician:
Ophthalmic Specialist – Field is to be filled by Licensed Optometrist (Therapeutics Certified) or Ophthalmologist, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician/Nurse. If optometry license is other than U.S., then individual must be certified to treat ophthalmic pathology. Certification must be equivalent to U.S. certification.
An ophthalmic specialist participates as part of the ophthalmic field team responsible for screening surgical candidates, assessing post-operative patients, and treating minor ophthalmic eye problems. This team works in community-based clinics at least four days each week. Complete job description available upon request.
