MEDICAL SUPPORT SUPERVISOR (COT certification required)
Duke Eye Center, a leader in Ophthalmology is looking for a Medical Support Supervisor. COT certification required as well as supervisory experience. The position is responsible for providing daily supervision and coordination of support staff. The candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge of the ophthalmic patient assessment as well as the skills to perform and teach all ancillary testing. The qualified individual must understand ophthalmic templates, patient flow, and staffing in order to achieve continuous and optimal patient care within the Eye Center. To be successful in this role the candidate must be customer service focused and have exemplary customer service skills.
Duties and responsibilities include:
• Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary process for medical support personnel.
• Day to day oversight and supervision of clinic operations.
• Establish schedules for medical support staff to ensure appropriate clinic coverage.
• Monitor staff training and daily hands-on instruction.
• Perform and document yearly competency and performance evaluations.
• Plans and directs orientation of new employees.
• Insure all JCAHO personnel files are current.
• Cultivate exemplary customer service throughout the clinic by example and education.
• Maintain strict confidentiality standards.
• Review provider schedules and adjust to meet patient needs.
• Monitors the patient care environment to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety, and compliance with various regulatory bodies (OSHA, JCAHO, etc).
• Assist management in the establishment and or implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the clinic.
• Conduct medical support staff meetings.
• Address physician and patient complaints timely.
• Respond to all Duke Health Systems Health Care Alerts and Pharmacy recall alerts.
• Meet with all vendors to discuss and sign the Duke and EC Vendor Policy. Monitor vendor activity to ensure compliance with sample medication policy.
• Strong communication skills and strong leadership abilities is a must.
• This position will actively work as a technician providing support for providers and the clinic approximately but not limited to 20%-30% of the time.
