Last Friday, your friends here at Local Eye Site put down our laptops, picked up a couple crow bars, and got to work harvesting building materials for Habitat for Humanity. With the holidays right around the corner, we felt it would do us all some good to serve the community we all call home for Local Eye Site’s 2012 Day of Service. We had a great time volunteering, using power tools, and ripping apart an old house for the sake of charity. What better way for a few internet gurus to let off some steam?
For this particular project, our task was to go inside a home that was set to be demolished in a few short days and save any reusable materials. Along with a number of volunteers, we spent a majority of the day prying up old oak wood floors, removing fixtures and cabinetry, and loading materials onto trucks that would take them to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store for sale or repurposing.
Overall, we had a great time working together (as we always do), giving back to the community, and making new friends along the way. Our goal is to continue serving our community in new and creative ways each and every year - and when we do - we’ll be sure to share it with you.
